Regional P&C’s Last Meeting of the Year

Our last meeting of the year will focus on the impact of recent federal and state government policy on the school experience of students in NSW schools.

• What are the plusses and minuses of initiatives such as –
• Proposals for standardised national curriculum
• National testing
• International ranking and comparisons of some areas of performance, and the use of these comparisons to justify policy decisions
• The increasing level of funding for private schools

Communities of Schools – New opportunities for the P&C

New education minister

Verity Firth attended North Sydney Girls High School and in 1991 whilst at NSGHS, she won the Sydney Morning Herald Plain English Speaking Award, the year after Julian Morrow from nearby St Aloysius.

She entered Parliament as the Labor Candidate for the seat of Balmain in the NSW general election of March 2007.
She was also elevated to the Ministry, becoming Minister for Women, Minister for Science & Medical Research, Minister for Health (Cancer), and Minister Assisting the Minister for Environment. She has subsequently become the Minister for Climate Change and the Environment.

Verity Firth grew up in Glebe where she continues to live with her husband Matthew and baby April. Verity has been a member of the Labor Party since she was fifteen.

She attended North Sydney Girls High School and studied Law at the University of Sydney.

Before she was elected as a councillor to the City of Sydney Council in March 2004, Verity practiced as a lawyer for the national firm Slater & Gordon, specialising in asbestos litigation and industrial law.
Verity Firth is the sister of comedian Charles Firth of Chaser fame.

the weekly pines

Do you get it? If not, you are seriously missing out. Our Principal David Tomlin and his staff and the students put a huge effort into keeping us informed,interested and entertained. The Pines is emailed out every Friday. The most recent edition had two fascinating and well written articles by Articles/photos from Sian Liddy and Joshua Fielding about their trip as Warringah Ambassadors to Brewarrina, an 80% indigenous community, 800 kms and 10 hours from Sydney. Water tanks

Thanks to the support of the P & C, the school have installed some water tanks. Thank you to Greg Cooper who leads the environment committee for his work on this.
