The School
Representative Council (SRC) keep us abreast
of their imaginitive activities to promote school spirit, involvement
with the community and cross grade/year communication
Principal David Tomlin discusses his vision and plans for the school.
Heads of Department explain
the curriculum and show sample of students work. These
talks are invaluable if you want to find out what and how
your child is learning.
Last November, Sue Beveridge, a consultant with the DET
Centre for Learning Innovation gave her presentation using the
new smartboard in the science lab
some of our past Guest speakers
Dr Jim Johnstone, Head of Mathematics gave us a fascinating insight
into how he makes Maths more relevant to our children - getting
away from artificial problem solving in text books, to solving
real life
problems like exactly how much paint is needed to paint the
maths room. He told us about Everest Gallois, who spent the
night before
he expected be killed in a duel writing up his group theory
- still a cornerstone of mathematics today. (Yes, he was killed).
And we think our HSC students are under pressure!

The School Captains and Senior Coordinators
spoke about the Student Representative Council (SRC)
The school Counsellor, David Martin talked about his role at the
school and, for those parents who have questions about special provisions
for exams.
The deputy Principal Ms Meg Tulk introduced
the Year 12 mentoring programme.
An attentive audience
Ms Karen Blundell, Head of the Visual Arts department
gave a fascinating talk about the curriculum from years 7 to
12, including a beautiful
display of artwork and the recent year 9/10 field trip which was
a wonderful experience.
Mrs Lyndall Hutton Head of English explained the new english
curriculum which is very different to the way English was taught
when most parents were at school.
Ms Kristina Devlin of the Manly Drug Education council
spoke on "Safe Celebrating" -
tips fo help your teenager have fun, but safely. She also talked
about the many valuable services offered by MDEC.
