2006 we cleaned up the environmentally very valuable bushland behind the school. We have received a grant for further environmental work. Scroll down for more pictures.

Ongoing Campaigns

  1. Create and maintain an Environmental Management Plan (EMP), based on a research project and how it could be incorporated with the requirements of the DET initiative - "Environmental Education Policy for Schools".
  2. Identify and pursue grants for funding of environmental improvements including the EMP.
  3. Upgrade the area around the school canteen.
  4. Plan and undertake an annual "Working Bee" (and Duke of Edinburgh scheme) to implement campaigns.
  5. Consider the future of the Abbott Road land, opposite the school site.

Finds included Christmas lights and woolworths trolleys

  1. Use a video tape presentation to encourage environmental awareness. Video edited by students now stored in Library.
  2. School entry gates areas paved with concrete.
  3. Upgrading of the basketball court area.
  4. The Duke of Edinburgh scheme was launched for students, and continues to be supported by staff.
  5. Pursue removal of the graffiti from the demountable building opposite the School gate on Abbott Road - and the building has now been removed.
  6. The Hall Sound system was installed in 2004 for the recent Concerts and musicals at the school ($26,000).
  7. Hall Lighting system. The former lighting system was insufficient to meet current stage lighting requirements or current OH&S occupational health and safety standards. As part of the overall hall upgrade the P&C called for tenders for lighting upgrades. Mostly complete ($15 000).

  9. School Environment Management Plan (SEMP). All schools in New South Wales should have a SEMP plan. Our draft plan, created with students and staff, led us to undertake an "Eco Snapshot Day" with with Year 8 students and a group called SCRAP .This may include some further projects and opportunities for sponsorship from groups such as the AGL Sustainable Living Program at the School of the Built Environment at the University of New South Wales and Warringah Council. The SEMP can be based on GIS (geographical information systems) placed on the web by Warringah Council.
  10. Eco Schools Grant 2003 for $2500 on Snapshot Day and also prizes of shower heads, and skylights and free tickets etc. Eco Schools Grant for 2005 was also won by SRC/P&C entry.
  11. Volleyball court and nets were funded and installed..
  12. The top oval was top-dressed and the goal posts were repaired ($2500).
  13. Investigated the desirability and feasibility of providing bus shelters near the school bus stops, with the school staff and Warringah Council. It is difficult to fund shelters for school use only. School staff felt that shelters on the footpath would get dirty, and unable to shelter the numbers of students involved.
